If an image on Facebook is being used to harm your reputation, misrepresent you, or portray you in a defamatory way, you can report it by following these steps. e.g…….
STEP 01
Locate the Image
Go to Facebook and find the image you want to report. It may be in a post, a profile, or a page.
STEP 02
Click on "More or "Options"
- For a post: Click the three dots (...) in the top right corner
- For a profile picture or cover photo: Click on the image to open it, then select "Options" at the bottom.
- Look for "Report Photo", "Find Support", or "Report Post"

Select "Report Photo"
- Click "More" or "Options", then look for "Report Photo", "Find Support", or "Report Post".
STEP 04
Choose a Reason for Reporting
Facebook offers different reasons for reporting an image. We will suggest you choose unlawful.
- It’s me or someone I know (if the image is used without permission).
- It’s offensive or inappropriate (if it contains nudity, violence, harassment, hate speech, etc.).
- It’s spam or a scam (if it's being used for fraud).
- It’s unlawful (select this if the content violates the law).
STEP 05
Reporting as Unlawful Content
You will be presented with different options to select between after choosing unlawful content. We recommend you to select intellectual property, to proceed to claim your copyright of the image.
- Intellectual property
- Defamation (select this)
- Request erase personal data under GDPR
- Content is unlawful for another reason (e.g. hate speech, harassment).
STEP 06
Reporting Defamation on Facebook
If you select "Defamation", follow these steps:

- Select your country where you are claiming legal rights, from the list provided. (you home country)
- Who are you reporting on behalf of?:
- I am reporting on behalf of myself (select this)
- I am reporting on behalf of my organisation (e.g. I'm an employee).
- I am a lawyer or other representative authorised to report on behalf of my client.
- I am reporting on behalf of someone else
- Your full name (enter your name)
- Postal address (enter your home address)
- How many URL’s would you like to report? You can report multiple instances of the image if it appears in different places. If you don’t have an URL you can upload screenshots or the evidence report provided in your SASHA app.
Example: Copy and paste the link to the post where the image was shared. - Reason for the report: Briefly explain why the image is defamatory.
We have created this example to what you can insert in the text box: "This image was shared without my consent and is being used to damage my reputation." - Additional evidence If you provided URLs in the report, you may upload the evidence report provided to you in the SASHA app.
- Electronic Signature. Type your full name as your digital signature.
- Submit your report
STEP 07
After you submit your report
Depending on your selected category, Facebook may request additional details.
Facebook will review your report and notify you of their decision via notifications on the platform.
If your report is denied but you still believe the image violates your rights:
- Try contacting Facebook support directly.
- Report it again with more details.
